National Go Canoeing Week 2016 - It's Hotting Up!

The week is now well under way and the competition for winners of top individual and top group mileage is really hotting up!

With the 100 mile challenge having now finished we have got lots of great entries of 100 miles from individuals. We’ve not spotted anyone who has broken that magic 100 mile marker so far but with some people entering their mileage day by day it’s all adding up.

Last years individual mileage winner was Matthew Allen who clocked up 125 miles throughout the week. Will any of those 100 mile challenge paddlers head out again to top up their mileage? Or will it be another paddler who pips them to the post?!

Our current leading group are Leicester, Northamptonshire and Rutland Army Cadet Force. This group of young people are spending the week having various paddling adventures, including visiting us here at the National Water Sports Centre before setting off on a paddle on the River Trent! Between them, so far, they have registered a whopping 1112 miles!

This doesn’t put them close, yet, to last years winning group total of 2789 which won the Canoe Camping Club a new boat but there is still time.

We’ve also heard rumour that quite a few groups are keeping their mileage close to their chest until the end of the week. It will be exciting to see who will paddle away with this years top group prize of a boat, paddle and buoyancy aid!

The week is not all about competition and large mileage totals however. Our main aim is to get as many people as possible out on the water and enjoying canoeing! Even if you get out and paddle one mile you will be contributing to our overall target of 30,000 miles. Plus, everyone who registers their mileage is in with a chance of winning one of our spot prizes!

You still have four more days to get on the water and have some fun! Find the perfect paddling opportunity for you here.
