Record Mileage for National Go Canoeing Week
British Canoeing are pleased to announce an extremely successful National Go Canoeing Week for 2017.
Across the week (27 May – 4 June), a record breaking 54,633 miles were logged on our National Go Canoeing Week website, from paddlers inputting a couple of miles on their own, to clubs submitting thousands of miles from across the week. This is a whopping 16,238 miles more than last year.
We would like to thank everyone who took part in joining us on The Big Adventure! Over the next few weeks, we will be collating all the information from the week, with top mileage, photo competition and spot prize announcements being made on the British Canoeing website soon.
In addition to the colossal amount of mileage clocked up across the week, we have received hundreds of photographs, showcasing the great ways and places that you have been paddling during the week. We will be looking to share as many as of these as possible in the coming weeks, to inspire others to take on a similar challenge.
Alongside the pictures, we also received some fantastic stories throughout the week.
Charlotte Spearing took part in the 100 Mile Canoe Test on the River Wye, spread over four days during National Go Canoeing Week. She said: “It was a great experience, lots of fun and the challenge physically pushed me to my limits. I will definitely be taking part again next year!”
Elsewhere, Caroline Rudland took her 18 month son out for his first ever canoe trip to celebrate the week. “This was my son's first canoe trip, he's just under 18 months. We had a fun time and he either stood with me or his daddy! Was very pleased to see him get hold of the t-bar of the paddle himself! Grandpa came in a kayak too.”
Check back again soon as we will be sharing more and more of your National Go Canoeing Week stories throughout the coming weeks.
